Fall plant sales are getting in gear in my corner of the Atlanta area. Fall is the best time for planting perennials, shrubs and trees. When I started out gardening, I didn’t understand this. Don’t you need warm soil and long days for plants to grow? I’ve come to learn that it’s true that plants like spring and summer heat for growing, but often that’s too much of a good thing. The backbone plants in your garden, that is, the trees, shrubs and perennials, thrive in your garden when they’re planted in the cool, damp days in fall. The cool season gives them time to stretch out their roots and settle in, instead of being assaulted by our brutal summer heat.
With that in mind, here’s a list of plant sales near my Atlanta, Georgia, home slated for fall 2023. It’s a dynamic list. Let me know your favorite Atlanta area fall plant sales and I’ll add them. Just comment to the post or reach out through Instagram or Facebook.
