Great Southeast Pollinator Census 2025 Dates

April 16, 2025 By Lucy Mercer Leave a Comment

If you believe in the power of pollinators and want to be a part of protecting them, sign up for the Great Southeast Pollinator Census happening this summer. The dates for this seventh annual census are August 22 and 23, 2025.

The census project is open to residents of Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida, and for the first time ever, Alabama.

The Great Southeast Pollinator Census is a University of Georgia citizen science project. It’s designed for people of all ages to participate and make a difference for pollinator conservation. The word “census” sounds very official, but this project is simply observing plants for 15 minutes at a time. You record each time an insect lands on that plant. You upload your data to the website and that’s it — you’ve done your part.

It’s easy to sign up for the census. You’ll receive excellent information via email that will help you create habitat for pollinators and identify the bugs that come your way.

And if you’re a Master Gardener Extension volunteer, you may be able to include census participation in your required volunteer hours.
