The 2026 Great Pollinator Census will be held on Friday, August 21 and Saturday, August 22. Participating states this year besides the inaugural state of Georgia, are South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida, Alabama and Mississippi.
The pollinator census is a citizen science project that tracks pollinating insects in home gardens and public spaces. The resulting data guides educational efforts for pollinator conservation. Every count helps!
Here’s how to help the count this year:
Interested in joining the count this year? Here’s how:
- Sign up for the newsletter.
- Prepare for the count days (August 21 and 22) by downloading the counting sheet and checking the insect counting and identification guide.
- Join the Southeast Pollinator Census Facebook page and follow on Instagram @SoutheastPollinators.
- Upload your counts to the website. The portal to upload counts opens early on August 21, 2026.
If you’re a Georgia Master Gardener (extension volunteer), you can count your counting time towards your volunteer commitment. (Check your local extension office for official rules).
I look forward to the pollinator census every year, and plan my garden accordingly. It’s so exciting to see the insects show up each year to my garden buffet!
